Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Review

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is a prequel to the first Kingdom Hearts. It is available for PSP only but if you are Kingdom heart fan, you should give it a try for sure. The game revolves around the key blade masters. The game offers more challenges for the players in comparison to Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2. This is because you can play through three different characters each with different story. Here is a detailed review of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep discussing the pros and cons of the game.

Pros of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

There are a number of twists and turns in the story which keep the player bound to the game. The story moves forward from the point of view of three characters-Terra, Aqua and Ventus. I liked it more as Terra as it looked more organized and helped me to understand the game play easily. Graphics also looked appealing to me and the spell animations are justified. There is a special D-link feature in the game. This feature allows you to connect with other characters in the story as the game progresses. After, you have formed the d-link, you can choose this option. It will change the active commands depending on the character you have chosen. There is an option for the player to buy squares with the points accumulated during the game. If other characters land on this square, they will have to pay some points as taxes. As you start progressing to higher levels, you will acquire new commands as well. It will take you about 10-12 hours to finish each story. Since this version has three stories the total game play is about 30-36 hours depending on the player experience and skills. In addition to the normal mode, there are two other modes as well- Proud and Critical mode. The proud mode appeared much difficult to me while critical mode increased the number of challenges. The multiplayer mode allows a maximum of 4 players to compete with each other in the game.

The music of the game is appealing which enhances the gaming experience. There is a range of music used in different levels which keeps the gamer engaged and eliminates the chances of boredom. Some of the themes from earlier versions have been retained but most of the characters are provided with new soundtrack.

Cons of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

One thing that I didnít liked in this version is that one has to qualify from some mini games to lock further levels. Though the mini games are not that hard but it seemed to be annoying. On the mini- games is racing which gets over in between and you just cannot do anything about it. Another annoying feature is repetitive music. If you play the game for longer duration, you might start getting bored due to this.

Final Verdict

If you have enjoyed the earlier versions of Kingdom hearts, you will certainly like Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. The interesting game play, variety of combat options and the multiplayer option make it worth trying.
